2015 Bourbon Street Jazz Festival

Another great concert coming up from the people at Kids First / Arts for Mobility on 30th May at Cargo Bar/Q4. Headline act is Nina van Horn and her international blues band kicking off their China / Thailand / Malaysia concert tour with their first stop in Saigon to support this worthwhile charity event. Nina though born in New Orleans, brought up in Texas, has been resident in Paris for many years actively do regular European tours. We missed out on seeing her at last years BSJF due to her performance commitments in China and Korea. She and her band will perform a total of 2.5 hrs of her songs in two sessions, mixes of international favorites, tributes to well known jazz & blues artists as well as introducing us to her exciting take on current European jazz and blues styles. Supported by local bands Claudio & Bad Neighbour Band along with news chaps on the block, Brooklyn Funky Blues Band, and others. Concert complete with Cajun style food and refreshments.

Nina Van Horn

You don’t listen to NINA VAN HORN, you also have to watch her performing!

This former dancer is on stage since she’s 14 and it shows everytime she hits a stage. She started as a classical dancer, performed with the Lyric Company of France, even started a lyrical carreer when they found out she could sing and pretty well : she was a Soprano Colorature for some years but did not find her real way in it and decides to become a Country Singer while living in Texas for a while…
Her adventures lead her to New Orleans where she found her real satisfaction in Blues as riding Harley, whiskey and cigarettes shaped her voice for this kind of music !

Nina Van Horn was selected twice to represent France at the Festiblues of Montreal and her last cd/dvd « Ashima was also sent to the Memphis Blues Challenge by France Blues.

« the hardest Working Blues Woman in show business » as her bassist introduce her and title well diserve!
She traveled the planet from India to Argentina, Malaysia, Europe, China, Korea, Thailand and now Vietnam, with an endless Message : Love and Music is the answer !

Brooklyn Funky Blues Band

Brooklyn …Four gentlemen who breath, play and live music because they can! No attitude, no ambition other then to give you a great time and enjoy music with them! Based in Saigon, Vietnam, this band is bringing you a mix of Blues, Funk and Soul with passion and love for music.

‘Music has always been a valuable addition for any occasion, it is the professional approach of the musician to make any occasion special.’

Marc Martens, born in The Netherlands, started playing the piano when he was 6 years old and enjoyed a classical education for more then 10 years. Hugely inspired by the Beatles he made his first improvisations and arrangements when he was 7 years old. His first paid gig when he was 10 years old and he has been playing with  choirs since he was 11 years old. He had his first band when he was 12. Since he was young music has always been a huge part of his life.

Influenced by George Duke, Michael McDonald, Yellow Jackets and Chic Corea he focussed on Jazz-Rock fusion which resulted in a number of albums from his own hand in 2007 and 2012.

With a large international experience in Greece, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam he knows how to play in lounge bars and 5 star hotels.

Festivals, private parties, weddings, cocktails, dinners, corporate parties and presentations. Marc has done them all and easily he adapts to every environment while enjoying playing his piano and audience.

Every musician has his own style. The best way to describe his music is to ask the audience when Marc takes them on a musical journey from pop to soul, jazz and funk. Wether he plays mainstream songs or his own improvisations, his sounds will make your evening complete…

Now Marc brings you BROOKLYN!

Based in Saigon, Vietnam, this band is bringing you a mix of Blues, Funk and Soul with passion and love for music.

Four gentlemen who breath, play and live music because they can! No attitude, no ambition other then to give you a great time and enjoy music with them!

The mystery of Brooklyn……… A city with a history they all shared and prefer to keep a secret. Reunited in Asia and never to separated again.

Claudio & Bad Neighbour Band

Describing Bad Neighbour is simple, said front man and Argentinian guitarrist Claudio: our music is free-spirited, not imprisoned by the limits of jazz, reggae, latin and rock, which are our main influences. It is a Latin music but heavily influenced by reggae and Jazz with powerful bass.

It is a rock smoothed by the Latin and its percussions.

It’s a reggae with coconut trees…
