"I AM WAITING FOR YOU LAST SUMMER chính thức ra đời ở Ryazan, Nga năm 2011.

Alex và Eugene gặp nhau khi cả hai đang cùng nhìn ngó bộ pedal của This Will Destroy You ở một buổi diễn của nhóm này tháng 10 năm 2010. Alex khi đó chơi trong Epsilon Ryr và Eugene là thành viên của I Am Waiting For You Last Summer, hai ban nhạc địa phương khi đó gần như đang ngủ đông. 

Và thế là, cũng tại cùng quán bar nơi họ gặp nhau, một thời gian sau đó, sau vài chầu whiskey, Alex đề nghị anh và Eugene chơi nhạc cùng nhau. Và thế là, một phiên bản mới của IWFYLS ra đời.

Một tay DJ tên Leo, bạn chung của cả hai, được mời đến phòng tập để nghe thử, rồi trở thành thành viên thứ ba của ban, đảm nhiệm các yếu tố điện tử."

Tháng 9 năm 2014, PROPORTIONS lần đầu xuất hiện trên sân khấu khi được THE ONION CELLAR mời tham gia diễn chung cùng COCC. 

Phần còn lại, như người ta nói, là lịch sử.

Những ngày đó, sự xuất hiện không báo trước của PROPORTIONS gần như lập tức tạo ra những cơn sóng ngầm ở Việt Nam và trên thế giới với ‘công thức’ âm nhạc hấp dẫn của họ. Nhưng đừng ngạc nhiên: PROPORTIONS khởi đầu như một dự án studio, một HanoiCore-supergroup của hai trong số các thành viên năng nổ nhất của cộng đồng đầy nhiệt huyết này, hai gã trai đã và đang đốt cháy các sân khấu cùng những Nuranium, Epione, Alive in Sight, Augustory, v..v.. – với những cái tên như vậy trong hai bản CV, một dự án như PROPORTIONS dường như luôn chỉ chực chờ ngày ra đời. Một bước tiến về phía trước hoàn toàn hợp lý.

Và như thế, EP đầu tiên của PROPORTIONS (Shadows) bao gồm một số trong những sáng tạo tự tin nhất của hai thành viên: giọng hát dữ dội nhưng biểu cảm, những khúc tremolo đưa ta lên trời xanh, harmonic riff đầy giai điệu, ca từ như những đốm lửa trong đêm, hoán chuyển nuột nà giữa ‘ầm ĩ’ và ‘tĩnh lặng’ – những yếu tố này được bao phủ bởi lớp texture post-rock tuyệt nhất từng xuất hiện trong một đĩa nhạc trong nước.

Xin thứ lỗi cho những so sánh có lẽ không hẳn 100% công bằng (với ban nhạc) của chúng tôi, nhưng nếu bạn yêu thích Alcest thời kỳ trước đĩa Shelter, hay những nhóm screamo và post-hardcore đương đại hoặc emo thời thập niên 90 ở Mỹ, chắc chắn sẽ có rất nhiều điều cho bạn khám phá và ‘fall in love’ trong Shadows, như cách mà một lượng không nhỏ người nghe trên thế giới đang đón nhận đĩa nhạc này.

"Atmospheric tunes tinged by deep, building progressing guitar patches and thickened by steady industrial sounding electronics pay homage to post-rock acts such as Envy, Ireland’s God is an Astronaut and early Album Leaf."

"I AM WAITING FOR YOU LAST SUMMER was formed in Ryazan, Russia in 2011. 

Alex and Eugene met at a local bar examining the rig of This Will Destroy You when the band played in their town October 2010. Alex at the time played in a band called Epsilon Lyr and Eugene a guitarist of I Am Waiting For You Last Summer, both bands barely alive.

And so, later on, at one of the parties at the same bar, having consumed a fair amount of whiskey, Alex came up to Eugene and asked him if he wanted to play together. Eugene agreed and the guys started writing material and rehearsing. And thus began the new incarnation of IWFYLS.

Soon they invited their DJ friend Leo to their rehearsal as a listener. Soon after which he also became a member of the band, responsible for the electronic components of the music."

September 2014. Invited and essentially 'commissioned' by THE ONION CELLAR to play alongside Saigon underground-legends COCC at Hanoi Rock City, the live incarnation of PROPORTIONS appeared for the first time ever. 

The rest, as they say, is history. 

PROPORTIONS began as a studio side-project of two of the community’s most active figures, who between them have been over the years rocking out with Nuranium, Epione, Alive in Sight, Augustory – all indications that something in the vein of this new project was always bound to happen. A natural step forward.

And thus PROPORTIONS benefits from some of this duo’s strongest work to date, some of their most heartfelt vocals, epic tremolo pickings, melodic harmonic riffs, wide-screened lyrics, contrasting loud-quiet dynamics: everything filtered through the finest layer of post-rock textures ever committed to recording in this country.

In fact, trivial categorisations and blatant name-dropping aside (forgive us), those who cannot get enough of the intense (and at times violent) beauty of pre-Shelter Alcest, contemporary screamo and post-hardcore as well as 90s American emo and the likes, will find a lot to enjoy on the band’s self-produced-and-released debut EP Shadows, one that surprisingly, almost instantly won them considerable international support.
