Microservices is an architectural style that structures an application as a collection of loosely coupled services, which implement business capabilities. The microservice architecture enables the continuous delivery/deployment of large, complex applications and also enables an organization to evolve its technology stack. However, it is not a silver bullet and has several drawbacks, especially from its own distributed nature. 

In this Tech Talk, we will start by giving you an overview of microservices, its pros and cons in comparison to monolithic architecture, and then walk you through the challenging yet interesting experiences of refactoring existing monolithic architecture into microservices at MessageMedia and Ansarada from different perspectives.

With 13 years of experience as a technical project leader and architect, he has successfully led international projects from multi-industries such as transportation, health care, finance, etc. He is a technology expert with extensive knowledge of different databases, web servers, design tools, frameworks and platforms, etc.

Benjamin Mostafa, Engineering Manager & Head of Developer Relations, MessageMedia

Benjamin Mostafa is Engineering Manager and Head of Developer Relations at MessageMedia. Leading the DevOps teams responsible for building, executing and supporting the API products supported by MessageMedia’s platform, Benjamin has extensive experience in development, web services and agile methodologies. As Head of Developer Relations, Benjamin is passionate about building and empowering a community of developers who use the MessageMedia platform to enrich their applications with messaging.

Laurence Smith, Senior Developer, Ansarada

Laurence Smith is a senior backend developer on the cross-cutting architecture team (ATLAS) at Ansarada. As a member of the ATLAS team for 6 months, he has contributed towards the unification of user profiles for ansarada's different products, as well as assisting in migrating an SSO solution to an external authorisation provider (Auth0). He has been a professional developer for 20 years in various industries such as law enforcement, financial planning, and waste management.
