Those who fled the Fall of Saigon in 1975 were refugees traumatized by wars and bound by old ways of life. In the United States, they built new lives in a country known for its fabulous fantasies, high-tech wizardry, and individualistic ambition. For many, the homeland is a destination, but no longer their destiny.

Author and essayist Andrew Lam left Vietnam at the age of 11 at the end of the Vietnam War for America. His three books, “Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora,” “East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres,” and “Birds of Paradise Lost,” all explore the various dimensions of being Vietnamese in America, and the Diaspora’s constantly changing relationship with its homeland.

Lam is currently visiting Vietnam to research on his fourth book and will give his take on the history of Vietnamese in America. Please join us for a personal and insightful evening with one of the most illustrious writer to come out of the Vietnamese American community.
