Salon Saigon hân hạnh giới thiệu "Những giấc mơ trong giấc mơ" - một buổi tối của âm nhạc thử nghiệm, nghệ thuật âm thanh và hình ảnh động bởi Son FM.

Son FM là một cuộc thám hiểm âm thanh và thời gian hợp tác bởi hai nhạc sĩ đến từ hai phía đối diện của địa cầu. Nic Ford (Anh) và Attiss Ngo (Mỹ) tạo nên lớp chồng lớp âm thanh, phóng chiếu lên thành những đợt sóng âm lớn phá vỡ bến bờ của một câu chuyện âm nhạc bị xóa mờ theo thời gian. Người nghe nhanh chóng bắt đầu cuốn theo khoảng lặng giữa những nốt nhạc, những khuôn mẫu nằm trong sự hỗn loạn, những giấc mơ trong giấc mơ. Bằng cách đạt được sự bất cân xứng và từ bỏ kỳ vọng, một trạng thái hiện diện thuần túy đã được mở ra.

Với “Những giấc mơ trong giấc mơ”, Son FM sẽ trình diễn phần nhạc sống cho kiệt tác phim thể nghiệm New Old vào năm 1979 của Pierre Clémenti. Bằng cách loại bỏ các câu chuyện truyền thống và đính kết các đoạn phim từ hơn một thập kỉ của cuộc đời ông với tư cách là một diễn viên, đạo diễn và một hình tượng phản văn hóa, Clémenti mời người xem đắm chìm trong một lối kể chuyện mới: trừu tượng và khó lường, nhưng không hề tỏ ra bối rối. Giống như một giấc mơ, âm nhạc và bộ phim chảy cùng nhau qua những thế giới và thời gian khác nhau, và thậm chí những khoảnh khắc kì lạ nhất cũng tưởng chừng như có chút gì quen thuộc. .

Son FM

Son FM bắt đầu vào năm 2018 như một thử nghiệm giữa hai nhà sản xuất âm nhạc có nhiều kinh nghiệm trong sự lặp lại xung nhịp có tính lan truyền của nhạc dance điện tử. Nic Ford (Anh) và Attiss Ngo (Mỹ) bắt đầu tạo ra các vòng lặp và âm nhịp đơn giản lặp lại phi số liệu, nhanh chóng phát hiện ra rằng các môtip không có thứ tự tạo nên một dạng thức nhịp điệu đầy bất ngờ. Những người nghe tới các buổi hòa nhạc của Son FM bắt đầu kể về những giấc mơ trong khi tỉnh giấc, cảm giác hoài cổ và những ảo mộng về trái đất và không gian sâu thẳm khi họ lạc vào biển cả âm thanh, và bộ đôi biết rằng họ đang đi đúng hướng.

Nic Ford

Nic Ford (sinh năm 1981, Anh) là một nghệ sĩ âm thanh, DJ và nhà sản xuất âm nhạc. Nic chuyển đến Việt Nam hơn 10 năm trước, sau khi tốt nghiệp Cử nhân Nghệ thuật Âm Thanh và Nghệ thuật Đa phương tiện tại The University of Central Lancashire, Anh. Anh đã tổ chức và chơi nhạc cho các sự kiện âm nhạc trong khu vực kể từ đó. Anh là resident DJ của The Observatory từ khi câu lạc bộ mở cửa lần đầu tiên vào năm 2013. Mài dũa các kĩ năng chơi nhạc từ những giữa những năm 90’, anh giữ vị trí là resident DJ tại Dry 201 (Factory Records, New Order) ở Manchester, và là một người sưu tập đầy khát khao các thể loại âm nhạc đa dạng. Anh cũng đồng thời là một nhà sản xuất âm nhạc nổi tiếng, là một trong hai thành viên của MadderModes, một dự án sản xuất âm nhạc đã có các xuất bản trên một loạt các hãng đĩa ấn tượng bao gồm DRED Records và Millions of Moments.

Attiss Ngo

Attiss Ngo là một nhà soạn nhạc người Mỹ gốc Việt. Anh có một nền tảng âm nhạc đa dạng gồm đào tạo cổ điển tại Nhạc viện San Francisco, 8 năm lưu diễn với tư cách là người đứng đầu cho một ban nhạc psychedelic rock, điều hành một phòng thu tại New York và sản xuất nhạc cho nhiều nghệ sĩ khác nhau, từ nhạc kịch đến Hardcore tới nhạc phim. Là một nghệ sĩ biểu diễn nhạc sống, anh trình bày một cách tiếp cận độc đáo với âm nhạc điện tử thông qua việc sử dụng ‘microtonal synthesis’ và nhịp điệu bất đối xứng, tạo ra những miền âm thanh dày đặc khiến người nghe có thể tạm thời quên đi cái tôi của mình và trôi lạc trong âm thanh.

Salon Saigon is pleased to present "The dreams within the dream" – an evening of experimental music, sound art and moving images by Saigon-based artists: Son FM, consisting of two sound artists and musicians Nic Ford and Attiss Ngo and VJ artist & filmmaker John Jack Mandish.

Son FM is a collaborative exploration of sound and time from two musicians from opposite sides of the globe. Nic Ford and Attiss Ngo create layer upon layer of tones, swelling into vast sonic waves that break on the shore of a musical narrative removed from time. The listener quickly begins to follow the silence between the notes, the patterns inside the chaos, the dreams within the dream. By yielding to asymmetry and abandoning expectations, a state of pure presence is achieved.

For "The dreams within the dream", Son FM will perform a live score for Pierre Clémenti’s 1979 experimental film masterpiece New Old. By discarding traditional narrative and stitching together footage from more than a decade of his life as an actor, director, and counterculture icon, Clémenti invites the viewer to be immersed in a new kind of storytelling: abstract and unpredictable, but unabashedly human. Like a dream, the music and film flow together through different worlds and times, and even the strangest moments seem somehow familiar.

Son FM

Son FM began in 2018 as an experiment between two music producers well-versed in the infectious pulsing repetition of electronic dance music. Nic Ford (UK) and Attiss Ngo (USA) began to create simple loops and tones which repeat non-metrically, quickly discovering that the off-kilter motifs produce an unexpected rhythmic form. Listeners at Son FM concerts began to report having waking dreams, feelings of nostalgia and visions of earth and deep space as they got lost in the sea of sound, and the pair knew they were on the right path.

Nic Ford

Nic Ford is a British sound artist, music producer, and international DJ who moved to Vietnam from the UK around 10 years ago, after finishing his BA Hons in Sonic Art and Multimedia Art at The University of Central Lancashire, UK . He has been running and featuring on lineups of music events throughout the region since then. He has been a resident of The Observatory since it first opened in 2013. Honing his skills since the mid-nineties, he held his first residency at Dry 201 (Factory Records, New Order) in Manchester and is a voracious collector of a vast array of music. He’s also a highly acclaimed producer, being one half of MadderModes, a production outfit that has releases on a range of impressive labels including DRED and Millions of Moments.

Attiss Ngo

Attiss Ngo is a Vietnamese-American composer. His diverse musical background encompasses classical training at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, touring for 8 years as front-man for a psychedelic rock showcase, running a recording studio in New York, and producing music for a diverse array of artists, from vaudeville to hardcore to film scores. As a live performer, he presents a unique approach to electronic music through the use of microtonal synthesis and asymmetrical rhythm, creating dense soundscapes in which the listener can temporarily suspend her ego and lose herself in sound.
