Dr Bui Tran Phuong is a researcher, teacher and former Rector of Hoa Sen University (Ho Chi Minh City).

She has a long history in teaching and researching on modern and contemporary Vietnam as well as on Vietnamese culture.

Her work deals with topics including the history of education and intellectuals, the history of colonization, the history of women and gender and the emergence of a feminine elite linked to colonial education.

She published: « La famille viet­na­mienne. Point de repère dans les tour­men­tes ? » (Dovert Stéphane et De Tréglodé Benoît éd.), « Viêt Nam contem­po­rain, Paris », (les Indes savan­tes, 2004, rééd. 2008); « Femmes viet­na­mien­nes pen­dant et après la colo­ni­sa­tion fran­çaise et la guerre amé­ri­caine : réflexions sur les orien­ta­tions biblio­gra­phi­ques », (Hugon Anne éd., Histoire des femmes en situa­tion colo­niale, Paris, Karthala, 2004).

A Doctor in contemporary history, she defended in 2008 a thesis entitled «Vietnam 1918-1945, gender and modernity: the emergence of new perceptions and experimentations.” (http://colo­ni­sa­tion-ensei­gne­ment.en....). Her presentation at salon Saigon will be an adaptation of this thesis.

The conference will be held in Vietnamese with English translation.

Tiến sĩ Bùi Trân Phượng là một nhà nghiên cứu khoa học, giảng viên và là cựu Hiệu trưởng của Trường Đại học Hoa Sen (TP. Hồ Chí Minh). Bà đã có nhiều năm giảng dạy và nghiên cứu về lịch sử cận hiện đại, cũng như về văn hoá của Việt Nam. Các công trình của bà thường đi sâu vào lịch sử giáo dục và cải cách trí thức, lịch sử phụ nữ Việt Nam và sự nổi bật của một tầng lớp phụ nữ ưu tú gắn liền với giáo dục thời thuộc địa.

Bà đã có những luận án được quốc tế đánh giá rất cao như: “La famille vietnamienne. Point de repère dans les tourmentes? » (Dovert Stéphane et De Tréglodé Benoît éd.), « Viêt Nam contemporain, Paris », (les Indes savantes, 2004, rééd. 2008); « Femmes vietnamiennes pendant et après la colonisation française et la guerre américaine : réflexions sur les orientations bibliographiques », (Hugon Anne éd., Histoire des femmes en situation coloniale, Paris, Karthala, 2004).

Năm 2008, luận án tiến sĩ của Bà có đề tài: “Vietnam 1918-1945, gender and modernity: the emergence of new perceptions and experimentations” (Việt Nam 1918-1945: giới và hiện đại: những nhận thức và trải nghiệm mới). Buổi trò chuyện tại Salon Saigon sẽ là bản phóng tác của luận án này.
