Since the late 1600s, there have been Chinese arriving, trading, and living along the Tau Hu canal area. Through many events, the Cho Lon area gradually became crowded and prospered, forming a separate city spanning the 18th and 19th centuries, then gradually expanding and adjacent to the Saigon area (District 1, 3) in the early years of the 20th century.
That the Chinese came here, brought with them one of the oldest and most distinctive cultures of humanity has created such a strong community-identity region that, despite many events and interference, it still presents and continues.
From the faint aroma of Chinese traditional medicine to the enchanting scent of the lamp and the charm of dim sum dishes, from the typical architecture of southern China to the indigenous people speaking their community-specific languages, those are the elements that create a very unique atmosphere in the city, which called “the Cholon vibe"!
This weekend, let's explore Cho Lon with SaigonWalks!
