Tổ khúc Ballet Carmen

Nhà hát Nhạc Vũ kịch Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh sẽ tái diễn tác phẩm Tổ Khúc Ballet Carmen vào thứ Bảy, ngày 14/11, trong chương trình lần này sẽ ra mắt một phiên bản dài hơn của tác phẩm Falling Angles mang chủ đề về giới tính hết sức hấp dẫn. 

Sùng A Lùng, chàng vũ công đôi khi thích  đính kèm từ  “H’mong” vào tên mình vì anh là một người con của vùng đất này,  đã từng gây ấn tượng với tiết mục độc tấu trên bàn trong tác phẩm Bolero của HBSO, là người đã hình thành nên Falling Angles. Tuy nhiên, biên đạo múa của tác phẩm này là Nguyễn Phúc Hùng. 

Vũ kịch Carmen là một trong những tác phẩm thành công nhất trong các tiết mục vũ kịch của HBSO.

Carmen tiền thân là một vở opera được viết bởi Georges Bizet  vào năm 1875. Tuy nó được viết bằng tiếng Pháp, nhưng bối cảnh lại ở Tây Ban Nha và đấu bò tót trở thành trọng tâm của cốt truyện. Những điệu nhảy của Tây Ban Nha cũng được đưa vào. Tới tận năm 1967 thì tác phẩm vũ kịch Carmen mới được ra đời  tại Cuba, một đất nước nói tiếng Tây Ban Nha,  bởi nhà biên đạo múa Alberto Alonzo. Phần âm nhạc được sử dụng là Tổ khúc âm nhạc được chuyển soạn dựa trên bản gốc vở opera của Bizet. 

Cả vở nhạc kịch lẫn vũ kịch, câu chuyện đều xoay quanh nàng công nhân quyến rũ và thích tán tỉnh Carmen.  Cô làm xiêu lòng chàng Don Jose trẻ tuổi non dại. Nhưng sau một cuộc tình ngắn ngủi, cô lại từ bỏ Don Jose để đến với chàng dũng sĩ bò tót Escamillo đầy ngạo mạn. Cả Don Jose và Escamillo chắc chắn sẽ phải đối đầu với nhau, cùng một cái kết quả chí mạng. 

Sự kết hợp xuất sắc giữa một tác phẩm kinh điển xuất sắc như Carmen cùng một phiên bản mở rộng mới mẻ của Falling Angles tạo nên một đêm diễn vô cùng hấp dẫn. Tác phẩm sẽ chỉ trình diễn một đêm duy nhất, do đó không thể bỏ lỡ. 

Giá vé từ 650.000 VNĐ đến 300.000 VNĐ, với mức giá đặc biệt 80.000 VNĐ cho học sinh - sinh viên. Tác phẩm sẽ quay trở lại với khán giả vào ngày lúc 8 giờ tối ngày 14/11 tại Nhà hát TPHCM.

Suite Ballet Carmen

The Ho Chi Minh City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will revive their Suite Ballet Carmen dance show on Saturday November 14, and combine it with the premier of an extended version of their gay-themed ballet Falling Angels.

Falling Angels was originally conceived by Sung A Lung, the dancer who so memorably performed the soloist dancing on a table in HBSO’s production of Bolero. He sometimes likes to have the word “Hmong” included in his name as he is of Hmong ethnicity. The show’s choreographer, however, is Nguyen Phuc Hung.

Ballet Carmen is one of the most successful products in the HBSO Ballet’s repertoire.

Carmen was originally written as an opera by Georges Bizet in 1875. It was in French, but the setting was Spain, and bull-fighting was central to the plot. Spanish dance sequences were included, but it wasn’t until 1967 that a full-blown ballet of the story was created. This happened in Cuba, a Spanish-speaking territory, and the choreographer was Alberto Alonzo. But the music he used was by the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. It’s based on the Bizet original, but very different from it.

The story of both the opera and the ballet concerns the charismatic and flirtatious factory-worker Carmen and the spell she casts on the young and inexperienced Don Jose. After a brief affair, however, Carmen leaves Don Jose for the boastful and haughty bull-fighter Escamillo. Don Jose and Escamillo inevitably confront each other, with fatal results.

The fine HBSO production grows on you the more often you see it. It features a black-shrouded figure known as “Fate” who in the later scenes dances among the three protagonists to great effect. This action, indeed all the action, is overlooked by an imposing bull’s head, no doubt representing the stubborn but doom-laden world of the traditional Spanish bull-fight.

The combination of an outstanding production like Ballet Carmen and the premier of a new version of an intriguing work like Falling Angels makes for a highly attractive presentation. It’s only being given a single performance, so it shouldn’t be missed.

Ticket prices are from 650,000 VND to 300,000 VND, with a special concession of 80,000 VND for students. The show is in the Saigon Opera House and begins at 8pm.
