Join renown Vietnamese American author and essayist as he explores the history of Vietnamese literature America in the last four decades, and shares his thoughts of the recent success of writers like Ocean Vuong and Viet Le and what it means. He will also read from his books, Birds of Paradise Lost, East Eats West, and Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora.
Author and essayist Andrew Lam left Vietnam at the age of 11 at the end of the Vietnam War for America. His three books, “Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora,” “East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres,” and “Birds of Paradise Lost,” all explore the various dimensions of being Vietnamese in America, and the Diaspora’s constantly changing relationship with its homeland.
Lam is currently visiting Vietnam to research on his fourth book and will give his take on the history of Vietnamese in America. Please join us for a personal and insightful evening with one of the most illustrious writer to come out of the Vietnamese American community.
