The Canadian Connection

Knowing the importance of laughter to the good folk of Ho Chi Minh City, on Jun. 4 Saigon International Comedy will once again bring its contagious medicine to the citizens of this fair town. Teaming up with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Vietnam (CanCham), two of Canada’s finest comics, Pat Burtscher and Garrett Jamieson, will descend on Phatty’s for a night of unbridled, north-of-the-border hilarity.

Having once worked at a dirt factory, a funeral home and a pornography store, Winnipeg born and bred Garrett Jamieson graduated from The Humber School of Comedy and is one of the founding members of the award winning sketch troupe, The BOOM, where he worked with dynamo Canadian comedians: Scott Thompson, Nikki Payne and Colin Mochrie. He has opened for the likes of Reggie Watts, Pizza Underground and Andy Milonakis, and has been featured on the Ron James Show, XM Radio's Laugh Attack, MTV Canada, Comedy Network, Etalk Canada and CBC Radio.

Pat Burtscher has been on the comedy scene since 2005 and has since toured the globe with a pocket full of ideas, a brain full of questions and a heart full of love. His unique capacity for reducing the universal to the personal has earned him critical acclaim and recognition as one of the most exciting stand-ups working on the international comedy scene today. Preoccupied by the big questions and overwhelmed by the complexities of the universe, Burtscher delivers a set that is as erratic, earnest and engaged as it is funny. “This guy is funny, and, seemingly, effortlessly so,” writes The List while Chortle has chimed in calling him “undeniably funny”. Wrote one reviewer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he “made me giggle uncontrollably... Pat does not like ‘assholes’.”

The Canadian Connection kicks off at Phatty’s 46-48 Ton That Thiep, Q1 at 8pm. The entrance surcharge is VND199,000 in advance or VND220,000 on the door. Table bookings can also be made at VND300,000 per person. Entrance includes a free San Miguel Draft.
